About CNS

We are a smaller agency-by choice, where you will receive personal service. Providers are a name with us, never a number! We are located in rural Tecumseh, Nebraska. This allows us to spend more money on materials and resources for our providers. A quality record keeping calendar and a “What’s Cookin II” cookbook is given to each provider. We publish a monthly newsletter with tips & training.

Trained staff review your monthly claim. We offer simple, easy to use paper forms and on-line claiming. You choose whatever is most convenient for you! You mail, fax, or email your monthly claims to the office, again choosing the method which works best for YOU. We offer direct deposit.

We hold free annual workshops in Lincoln & surrounding areas for continuing education hours which are state pre-approved.

We send out an itemized year end statement that is exactly what the CPA/tax preparer wants for tax information. It not only tells you the dollar total for the year, but gives you exact meal counts. This can save you hours when doing your taxes!

Meet the Staff

Jody Wellensiek

Program Director

Jody Wellensiek has been working in the nutrition field her entire career. After completing studies at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln she began her career in Southeast Nebraska. She has a wide range of experiences in hospital and long-term care settings, as well as WIC and the CACFP. She and Dean have four children who were nurtured in the home childcare setting.

As a registered dietitian, she has found her passion with the Child and Adult Care Food Program, and has been the program director for 26 years. She provides a direct involvement with the day-to-day management of the program and visits each month with providers. Jody enjoys hands-on workshops each spring.

Jody undertook a yoga instructing position this past year and enjoys teaching weekly classes. Other interests include her six grandkids, gardening/landscaping and traveling.

Brooke Ankersen

Program Assistant

Brooke Ankersen has been a program assistant at CNS since 2008. She was a Nebraska Child Care Professional for 10 years. This allowed her to be home with her own children when they were young. Brooke, her husband, and their children live in Beatrice. She is involved with their Junior High and High School sports and activities. Brooke is a proud grandma of three, Wyatt, who is 3 1/2 and Sophia and her twin sister Madilyn are one. Wyatt, Sophia, Madilyn and their parents live just blocks away providing the opportunity for lots of Grandma time.

Brooke loves working with children and seeing the meals and activities child care providers in the Child Nutrition Services program have implemented. She works in the Tecumseh office and visits home daycares. Brooke is also a NAP SACC trainer. She looks forward to visiting current providers as well as meeting new childcare professionals joining the program!

Tanya Speth

Program Assistant

Tanya is the newest member of the CNS staff.  She comes to us from a bookkeeping/accounting background.  Her previous work experience is proving to be a true asset in the record keeping component of the CACFP program.  She has been conducting training geared toward the new food program regulations.  She has also taken charge of making the updates to the CNS web page and is putting together a Pinterest page where we can post menu and recipe ideas.  Several projects are to have pages set up for everyone to find holiday ideas for creative snacks, and meeting the new regulations.

She has been privileged to have worked with many great in-home childcare providers in the past 10 years.  Her children Kinley – 10 and Leyton – 7 are enrolled at Freeman Public Schools.  Tanya and Travis are making plans to build a new home in Sterling.

Getting to know the CNS providers at home visits is her primary goal at this time.  Tanya is excited to connect with everyone in the future as we make the changes together.

Renee DeWald

Program Assistant

In 1986 Renee DeWald’s childcare career began at home raising three of her own children. She also operated a Homes 1 in Daykin, NE for nearly twenty years. Being enrolled with Child Nutrition Services helped her practice healthy meal planning at home and understand the importance of holding “family-style” meals with her own children and with the ones that she cared for daily.

After her youngest child graduated from high school in 2005, Renee closed her daycare and went to work for CNS. She enjoys conducting home visits and interacting with daycare providers and their kids. Since 2008 she has lived in Kansas City with her husband, and continues to process claims there.

Renee is a proud grandmother of three grandchildren, Sloan, Crew and Scarlett, who live only twenty minutes away. She and her husband are active in their church, Kings of Kings Lutheran, serving on the grounds committee and regularly attending Christ Care Bible study group. Some of her favorite activities include gardening, sewing, and interior decorating. She and her husband also enjoy bicycling, visiting the lake, and traveling just a mere 30 minutes to watch the Kansas City Chiefs and the Kansas City Royals. Renee loves being active in her neighborhood and making new friends.

She acknowledges that the world of daycare is not always easy and appreciates all those that show love and dedication to children!
